The steps to manually troubleshoot the issue are also provided in the article below in case the tool doesn’t work (delete the filters). Honestly it does sound like a hardware failure. . . If the laser light goes out of whack the drive is basically useless.

If there are no seeking sounds and the light is flashing at a regular, steady rate, that does sound like a drive problem. It may have gotten jammed. You just need to check and see if it's a IDE drive or a SATA drive. Cd and dvd rom is missing from my computer, device manager, even from everywhere?

  • If it's a NVIDIA chipset mobo then you'll have to download the latest ide/sata controller chipset drivers from their website.
